For Android mobile users, there is an option called Digital Wellbeing and Parental controls in Settings. It is available as a separate app for some users by default, both are same.
Settings -- > Digital Wellbeing and Parental Controls
It offers various options to control our screen time like -
- Setting a time limit for an app usage
- Bedtime mode and customizing it.
- Customization for Do Not Disturb mode
- Focus mode
- Heads-up
Setting a time limit for an app usage:
Once you open the setting Digital Wellbeing and Parental Controls, you will get the current day usage time of mobile. If you click on the time or View activity details, will get more details like screen time, unlocks and notifications per each app. If you scroll the bar graph, you will be able to see usage data for previous days as well.
OfCourse, social media apps would have consumed a lot of your time and so it is your choice to decide how much would you like to spend on those apps per day by setting time limit using timer option beside each app.
You will get a notification 5 minutes before the time limit as a reminder that app is going to be locked for the remaining time of the day and once the time limit is reached, app gets locked for the day.
Bedtime mode and customizing it:
This setting allows you to set your sleeping time for reminding you about the sleeping and to stop using the mobile by converting into the black and white screen. It can be customized with the Do Not Disturb mode, if required.
Customization for Do Not Disturb mode:
As most of you know about Do Not Disturb is used to prevent distractions from calls and notifications during important times, it can be customized for exceptional things like calls from important people like family members. It can control the people, apps and their interruptions based on their mode like conversations, calls, type of the notifications etc.
You can schedule time limits (say 10AM to 11.30AM Monday to Friday), manually turn on and off or turning it off after a specified period (say after 1 hour)
Focus Mode:
It is also similar to Do Not Disturb but the difference is if you select an app as distracting app it will be blocked entirely without any exceptions and phone or calls app will not be available for selecting it as distraction app .ie., you will be receiving calls even during focus mode.
You can schedule time limits (say 10AM to 11.30AM Monday to Friday or manually turn on and off.
Heads up:
It reminds you to look around your surroundings while you are using mobile walking to avoid most of the collisions, but you can't rely on it completely😊.
Location permission to be allowed all the time.
You can also access Digital Wellbeing and Parental Controls as separate app by toggling on the option "Show icon in the app list".
