Cyber attack which uses a charging port that doubles as a data connection, typically over USB is technically called as Juice Jacking.
Juice Jacking is used by hackers for data theft or for installation of Malware.
Steps to be followed for preventing Juice Jacking:
- Avoid using ports available for charging in public charging stations like Bus stations, Railway Stations, Hotels, Airports etc.
- Use your own chargers and power banks.
- Switch your phone off while using charging facility in public places.
- Use the option "Charge Only" while charging at unknown places.
